Position Overview:
Participates in dredge operations and maintenance related duties during the dredge season. Full-time temporary position: November 1, 2017 through February 28, 2018

Examples of Essential Duties:
•Operation and maintenance of dredge, tug and other Port vessels and related equipment.
•Maintains operating and maintenance records and logs for marine equipment.
•Performs maintenance activities on all dredge related equipment.
•Responsible for the accurate inventory, safeguard of equipment and provision of supplies to adequately perform the jobs assigned.
•Follows proper safety rules set by law and the Port and attends regular safety meetings.
•Ensures that dredge and related equipment is in proper working order and available for commencement of dredge operations at the beginning of the dredge season.

•Verifiable experience in rigging and positioning building components, heavy equipment components, logs, piling or other such material.
•Verifiable experience welding structural, fabrication, vessel and equipment repair in all environmental conditions.
•Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays, rotating shifts and occasional call in work on weekends.
•Verifiable dredging experience including working as a deck hand on dredge operations.
•Verifiable work boat operations experience.
•Trade school completion, OJT, apprenticeship, or military experience can be considered in lieu of certain requirements.
•To be considered a full-time employee, the candidate must successfully complete a six month accumulative probationary period.

Experience and Training:
High school graduation or equivalency. Dredge, boat, land and property maintenance or construction, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.

Considerable knowledge of marine, land and property maintenance including the materials and equipment used; safe and proper operation of such equipment as well as other safety standards required by law and Port rules. Considerable experience and knowledge of at least one of the following and reasonable experience and knowledge of the balance of: plumbing; carpentry; welding; blueprint interpretation; electrical systems; vehicle repair and maintenance; diesel motor maintenance.

Use of hand and power tools; use of heavy equipment such as dump trucks, cats, cranes and backhoes; safe operation of boats and motor vehicles.

Effectively communicate on a phone and two-way radio; maintain confidentiality; accurately classify, file and retrieve materials; maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees; handle complaints and problems courteously; establish priorities and delegate tasks; make effective independent decisions; supervise others; engage in heavy physical labor at times.
