Boatyard Receives Equipment Grant
Date: 07/17/2024
Through the Northwest Oregon Works Maritime Sector Grant program, the Port of Astoria Boatyard was recently awarded $11,500 for the purchase of a new forklift.
Northwest Oregon Works invests Federal, State, and Local funds into individual career development and business activities to bridge the gap between employers and prospective employees in Benton, Clatsop, Columbia, Lincoln, and Tillamook counties. This improves our local economies by placing hundreds of individuals into trainings, programs, and permanent career paths.
This funding was made possible by Oregon House Bill 3410, which was passed in June of 2023. This Bill established a Maritime Sector program with funding provided to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission to support strategic investments in workforce development programs and activities in Oregon’s Maritime Sector which employs 20,000 people statewide. Northwest Oregon Works took the lead on this initiative and hired its first-ever Maritime Program Coordinator, Len Tumbarello, in May of 2024. The Maritime Program Coordinator position and associated grant funding effective period ends in June of 2025.
The Maritime Program Coordinator champions impactful solutions, provides leadership, creates connections, fosters partnerships and makes investments to address the needs of individuals and the maritime industry.
The Port had previously been granted funds from NOW for a Boatyard Master Plan, which was approved by the Commission on July 17, 2024. To read more about exciting developments at our Boatyard, visit the Boatyard Master Plan project page on our website.
Thank you, Northwest Oregon Works!
