East Basin Causeway Removal
In November 2024, the Port Commission authorized a contract with Bergerson Construction to dismantle and remove the failed East Basin causeway. Bergerson began work on the project in early January. The boat ramp will experience temporary closures until February 28th to allow for equipment access.
Background
Constructed in the 1980s, the causeway was originally designed to connect the marina to a breakwater on the Columbia River. Over time, the structure suffered from severe deterioration, leading to its closure in 2018 due to safety concerns.
Future Plans
While the Port acknowledges the importance of the causeway for marina access, current priorities include major projects such as the rehabilitation of Pier 2, implementation of the waterfront master plan, and expansion of the boatyard. Reconstruction of the causeway remains a consideration for the future, contingent upon securing necessary resources and funding.
