Port Issues Requests for Expressions of Interest for Waterfront Redevelopment

In May 2022, the Port of Astoria Board of Commissioners, in collaboration with the City of Astoria, adopted the Waterfront Master Plan. This plan aims to redevelop a vital but underutilized area between Pier 1 and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. In December of 2024 the Port issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) to attract developers. The goal is to create a mixed-use development featuring hotels, retail spaces, marine-related businesses, and restaurants.

Port Signs Agreement for Final Design on Pier 2 Rehabilitation

Following the successful completion of preliminary designs, the Port signed an amendment with PND Engineers in May 2024, expanding their role to finalize the design for Pier 2 West. This amendment aims to bring the project to 100% design, ensuring it meets all regulatory and safety standards. The final design will include detailed construction plans for removing the existing timber structure and installing an open cell sheet pile system which will upgrade the pier's load-bearing capacity, improve resilience to environmental conditions, and incorporate sustainable construction practices. Construction on the Pier 2 West project is set to begin in November 2025.

Commission Approves Feasibility Study for Byproduct Recovery Center

The Port is taking significant steps to address environmental sustainability by advancing plans for a Byproduct Recovery Center (BRC). The goal of the BRC is to treat the wastewater produced by food processing facilities at the Port, particularly seafood processing plants, and reduce the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Columbia River. On August 20, 2024, the Port Commission approved a proposal that outlined SLR International’s completion of a Feasibility Study (“FS”) for a BRC to be located on Pier 2.
